Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) FAQ

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is a program that allows Manitoba to nominate potential immigrants according to the needs of the province.

The MPNP consists of four main immigration streams:

  • International Education Stream (IES)
  • Business Investor Stream (BIS)
  • Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM)
  • Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO)

This stream is for foreign skilled workers looking to settle and work in the province of Manitoba. The Skilled Worker Immigration Stream functions on an Expression of Interest (EOI) system and is divided into two categories:

  • Skilled Worker in Manitoba, and
  • Skilled Worker Overseas.

Through the Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream (SWM), the MPNP invites internationally trained workers who have the skills needed in the local labour market and nominates them to apply for a Canadian permanent resident visa with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to settle in Manitoba.

The Skilled Worker Overseas Stream is designed to target foreign nationals with skilled work experience needed to support Manitoba’s labour market needs. The MPNP nominates candidates who demonstrate an established connection to the province, such as support of family members or friends, previous education or work experience or an invitation as part of a Strategic Recruitment Initiative.

Under the MPNP renewal, the two streams will consist of four pathways:

  • Manitoba Work Experience Pathway
  • Employer Direct Recruitment Pathway
  • Manitoba Express Entry Pathway
  • Human Capital Pathway

TThe Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program’s Business Investor Stream (BIS) is for individuals interested in living and investing in Manitoba. The program operates on an Expression of Interest (EOI) system, whereby prospective applicants submit their intention to apply to the program, and the most qualified applicants are invited to apply for immigration. The BIS consists of two pathways: the Entrepreneur Pathway and the Farm Investor Pathway.

The Morden Community is Driven Immigration Initiative is an effort to bring immigrants in specifically targeted occupations to the rural town of Morden, Manitoba, situated 112 km southwest of Winnipeg. The targeted occupations include:

  • Welders;
  • Carpenters;
  • Cooks; and
  • Plumbers/Pipefitters.

Successful candidates and their dependent family members will become permanent residents of Canada.
