Agri-Food Immigration Pilot program

This program is aimed at providing workers in the agri-food industry with a means to acquire permanent resident status. Employers will need to apply to be considered eligible for a 2 year LMIA and it is anticipated that TFWs will be able to apply under this new pilot program from early 2020. A maximum of 2750 applicants will be accepted. Applicants can include their dependent family members in their applications for PR.

The pilot program will be open to non-seasonal workers and will include the following occupations Meat processing (inclusive of retail and industrial butchers as well as food processing labourers), Harvesting labour and general farm workers in mushroom and greenhouse production farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers relating to meat processing, mushroom, greenhouse crop and livestock raising. The pilot provides a pathway to permanent residence for experienced, non-seasonal workers in specific industries and occupations. It will run until May 2023.

Eligibility for Agri pilot

To be eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • 12 months of FT non-seasonal work experience in Canada in one of the list eligible occupations
  • CLB level 4 in either English or French
  • Minimum of high school graduation
  • Indeterminate FT offer of employment at the prevailing time

Eligible industries under the pilot are:

  • meat product manufacturing (NAICS 3116)
  • greenhouse, nursery and floriculture production, including mushroom production (NAICS 1114)
  • animal production, excluding aquaculture
    • cattle ranching and farming (NAICS 1121)
    • hog and pig farming (NAICS 1122)
    • poultry and egg production (NAICS 1123)
    • sheep and goat farming (NAICS 1124)
    • other animal production (NAICS 1129)

Application limits by eligible occupation

There are annual limits on the number of applications that will be processed for each eligible occupation.

Starting on January 1 of each year, applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. This pilot will last for 3 years.
